Board Report - May 2011

The 2011 board of directors began meeting together in March with a review of the Synergy history and its internal structure as we continue to pursue building an animal hospice program. Part of our first meeting included discussion of our personal attraction to animal hospice and hopes for this venue in the central Oregon region. We also reviewed the reasons we have heard from others and thought ourselves as to why an animal hospice program is not viable and after acknowledging these, we tore these to shreds and determined to remain focused on what is and could be possible.

Our second meeting was a full day retreat to examine various board models and methods of operation, particularly as it exists in an all volunteer organization, such as Synergy. We discussed the principles and core beliefs that we wish to model our work on as a board of directors and a nonprofit agency and reviewed the intention statements as written previously. On the following meetings we completed our agreements with each other about our team culture and our shared commitment to bringing Synergy Animal Hospice to fruition. We are continuing to shore up the infrastructure of Synergy as an organization and developing a full fledge service program that will begin as a two year pilot study when adequate funding is secured. We will keep you updated on our progress as we continue to move forward in our endeavors.

We are currently looking forward to our upcoming weekend workshop with Dr. Tom Wilson on the Heart and Art of Animal Healing Sessions on June 11-12, 2011 and meeting with him collectively as a board while he is spending some extra days here.

I consider it a privilege to serve with these fabulous women and look forward to what we will continue to learn and become in this process.

Respectfully,
